Default Road Closures

Just wanted to find out how peeps on the org felt about this.

If you came down a road and it was closed due to an accident, would you expect the Police or authorities to have a diversion in place to tell people where to go or just allow people to turn around?

Do you think its there responsibilty to make you get to your destination?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, but I didn't think this just affected bikers.

Actually, whilst it would be nice for them (police or authorities) to provide a detour, I think it is impractical (which is why for most of these they don't bother). However, if you are ever held up due to one, and I have been, then simply asking one of the attending officers should see you on the right road soon enough

Depends on the seriousness and length of closure. I for one would expect they have more important things to be doing at the scene initially than putting out diversion signs to save others 5 minutes of their day.

I think ultimately there is more important issues to be dealt with. Planned roadworks yes, accidents no.

There is considerably more to planning a diversion route than just sticking some signs up. Big contractors often have a team solely dedicated to this task. (considering pinch points, liasing with councils, weight loads of roads, the list goes on)

A detour to enable you to get back onto the raod which is closed further down that road (where the reason for the road closure is no longer affecting the traffic) would be a good idea. At the very least, an official at the scene should have a map to help people who come up to them and ask of an alternative route

I would, of course, never do such a thing but I have heard urban myths of officers pointing at their hat badge

and pointing out that it says E to R, not A to Z

Hmmm, wonder if these are the same ones who complain about the bad/unhelpful picture that gets painted of the police at times.

They've always been a helpful bunch IME ... and one even had a sense of humour ... me and a few m8's were doing "penny for the guy" outside a local boozer when one of Merseyside's "boys in blue" asked us how we were doing, and my m8 said (quick as you like), "Oh not much ... just a few bent coppers" (which I thought was incredibly witty for a 14 year old at the time). The copper just laughed and walked on by

You see thats what I thought people would think, but of course no.

The fact there's an accident, people are fed up as its upset their lives and journey.
