Hey All
I'm after some advice please, from those in the Know! Just got a Canon EOS 400d - which is fab! Now I have to get the lens. I have mainly wanted this camera for my Race photography hobby. This is just a hobby at the moment. Can anyone recommend a lens which isn't too expensive (pref 300mm). There is a Canon one which is fairly cheap, but I've heard mixed reviews of it, esp when it comes to racing photography. Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks!! |

Have a look here
Lots of good advice on that site. For that sort of money you would be looking at either a Tamron or Sigma basic f4.5 zoom lens which gives a reasonable quality. To get something nicer you need to be looking along the £800+ mark. Last edited by Jdubya; 21-11-07 at 05:09 PM. |

One thing i do know about cameras is Dont skimp on your lens. Its the thing that brings the light into the equation and can make or break a shot.. Samooshka has a 400d as well, and she has a pretty tasty lens bolted ont he fornt of it. Drop her a PM

I have a range of lenses on my 400D, the lens Viney is talking about is my Canon EF24-105mm f4 L IS USM but unfortunately for a good lens you are looking at around £650. Its great for portrait shots getting shots like this (obviously this has been worked on):
![]() ![]() I also use a Tamron AF 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 you can get one of these for around £120 depending where you go. I use this one a lot and love the range on it and the Macro which is great for doing flower and nature photography but also has the range to do sports photography... although if this was my main focus as a photographer i would use this lens to get me started and practicing but soon save up to get something better... but just a few shots you can get using it: ![]() ![]() HTH Sammy |
