Default Logitech marble mouse, cleaning?

Anyone use a Logitech marble mouse, the one with the red marble on top front not on the side?

If so has anyone succeded in cleaning the ball? Took out the screws but it looks like it will break if it is prised apart.

Mine is a bit gritty. Moral...don't use the computer while grouting bathroom tiles. Bah!

How about a cotton bud with some good evaporative cleaner stuff? Or if you haven't got any you could try some Lynx? Sounds crazy but I used to use lynx to get the left over sticky stuff from price stickers off of CD jewel cases.

I've got a microsoft trackball where the ball just pops out! He he he.

Been a bit since I've played with a Marble but thought the ball just lifts out for cleaning, no need to take anything apart with a screwdriver

And Dr Rich, get with the times and get yourself a nice cordless optical mouse. Only about a tenner for a basic one but it has no ball and you can use it on any surface (except glass and water of course) so no more cleaning that funny thing that looks like it escaped from the middle of a golf ball.

I've been using one of these at work for the past few years, never had a problem cleaning it. It's optical so apart from the odd clean so far it has been faultless.

Guess you don't know what a Marble is, it will work on any surface probably including water if it wasn't for the electrical bits, I know they even work upside down. Know I said its been a long time since I used one but I used to play with any new kit the company brought and had to try and break it Will agree optical mice are better for some but not cordless for big companies unless you have a way of recharging flat batteries very quickly
