Default lights on?

do you use your lights (on the bike) in the day time?
twas 1pm nice sunny day........
i had a bit of a bollocking the other day, as i was out with a group, and as i was overtaking one of the group (on a duel carage way) he was waving his arm and pointing like a crazy man?

when he stopped he told my i did not have my lights on,
i said i know, i had my sidelights on
he said well i could not see you behind me.

if you cant see a big red bike with a guy all in yellow, you should get your eyes tested

i relise some moden bikes they come on with the ignition

edit i forgot to point out that i did not have my lights on cos my hands were cold, and my hotgrips turn them selfs off if my lights are on.

My CBR is hard wired with the headlight always on but I have ALWAYS used dipped headlight during daytime with all my previous bikes.

If there is a SMIDSY incident resulting in an insurance claim it is another piece of ammunition to use to help your claim.

I do not understand riders that do not use their headlight it costs next to nothing to run and may save your life.

Always - you'll be more visible, what is there to think about?

Not worth assuming what others can, can't, should or shouldn't see?

The ducati 695 monster automaticly turns the lights on when you start the bike. genius idea! should be standard with all new bikes in my oppinion

You should have your lights on at all times. I however dont use mine during the day as my the drain on my battery is enough to make it die cause the electrics are rubbish. I have however always had the lights on at all times on every other bike ive ever been on.

I remember the big argument that started when someone in the EU (i think) said all cars should be hotwired to have there lights on all the time (like volvos do) and all the bikers where up in arms about it.

I'm of two minds, because of what Pete said at Stormy Petrel- he doesn't ride with lights on in daylight afaik. One of the reasons is that sometimes you comfort brake going up to a junction, this makes the nose of the bike dip and the driver could think you're flashing them. Same thing on a bumpy road.

I put mine on all the time if I'm town riding on, most of the time when I go out for a blast, purely out of habit.

I think new bikes now BY LAW have to have the lights hard wired on from the ignition (but could be wrong) after 2005?

I ride with em on anyway. apparently speed / distance is harder to judge if you can only see the headlights rather than the bike, but I'd prefer to be seen.

I see so many bikers riding black bikes, black gear, dusk, and no lights! what idiots!
