Default Bike GPS

Has anyone got any guidance as to what GPS units are available for motorbikes. I see there is a TomTom Rider and a Garmin Zumo. Has anyone used these before. Im sick of going the boring motorway route and would love some navi action

personally i really like the look of the garmin zumo but it is expensive, and i have never personally used it. The sat nav i did use was a cheap garmin street pilot i3 which worked well. However i couldn't really warrant the expensive of one of these unit such as the zumo and TomTom Rider and prefer to get lost with just a good old map lol!

Read http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=103720 for a start.

The Zumo has a great users' forum here , where you'll find all the lowdown info (warts and all). Don't know if there's anything similar for the TT. The Zumo is a great tool but by no means perfect, there again nothing is (yet).

TBH, part of the fun is learning new routes. As in that road looks interesting I wonder where it goes. Just get on a road and ride it.

Yeah, but if you actually want to get somewhere..................

Until last year I'd always done the map/key town list in the tank bag method, but I have to say having Emily whisper directions in my ear really comes into it's own when negotiating busy towns you've never been to before and have absolutely no idea where you're going. I reached Zurich on a Saturday afternoon at about 4pm, and not having to try to make out road signs while keeping out of the way of the traffic was a godsend.

I know where you are coming from. But I find that until the onset of sat nav. You could navigate by having a basic knowledge of UK and following road signs. That would get anyone to within a couple of mile of their destination. And then ask a local.

Why do I have sat nav on my bike?
To tell me of scameras.

I have a zumo 500. It is expensive but if you can live with the price I'd highly recommend it. Waterproof, robust and I wouldn't be without it now. It's the first sat nav I've owned though so I've nothing to compare it with.

Dunno how many times I have done that and been given very dubious directions or they just don't know where you are looking for, one one once where a landmark was, she didn't know she was standing next to it (neither did I )
