On the way home from the NEC last Friday in that great weather we were having my reg/rec went open circuit, cooking the battery and melting my hot grips, stranding me on a slip road of the M6 for 2 and a half hours!
![]() Ive got one off a zx6r kicking around but am strugling with adapting the wiring. The sv one is 5 wire and the kwak is 7. The 3 black on one plug go to the yellow on the sv but the other plug has 4 wires, black, black/blue, black/red and black/white. Any ideas where i should take them to on the sv? Thanks for any help with this. ![]() |

Morning.
7 wire regulators are usually found on bikes with a field coil type alternator, where the rotor is an electro magnet, & not a permanent one. So are you sure the one you have is from a ZX6, as from memory I think they have 6 wires coming from them. Cheers. |

CBR600 has a 7-wire reg/rec with a double set of positive and negative leads, so do a few other kwaks, though I don't know this one in particular.

I the just bought a pattern one for my ER5 runabout from Electrex World www.electrexworld.co.uk They get good reviews on the ER site. Fitted it and charging now O/K. They do one for the SV ref RR85, £59 +pp.

Morning all.
I've used Electrex for years, they make decent stuff, & give 12 months guarantee with it. The SV one is actually £59+VAT. Cheers. |

usually i never have trouble getting info i need from here or anywhere online but on this occasion i am truly stuck!
got a SV650 (S) K3 and replacing the R/R. Bought the replacement from Electrex, the RR85 as advised by them. i head to the bike remove the old and find the following difference between old and new; old R/R has 7no wires and new RR85 has 5no wires. this is where i become stuck! is this really the right R/R - RR85 if so then how do i re wire to fit existing 7 wire setup both have 2no connectors one of which is same as other but 2nd connector on old has 4no pins and new has 2no female connections! Would very much appreciate some help from anyone who has dealt with this sort of situation...desperate to get bike back on road to avoid using public transport any longer than i have too! i went with the RR85 over the genuine suzuki version due to recommendations from several sources. |

Now, I'm no expert on the pointy SVs but I thought all SVs had 5-wire reg/recs. So, I'm wondering if maybe you already have some alternative one fitted?

bike was bought pretty new and i dont think the previous 1 owner did any work on it and wires dont look altered to me??? i think this is the genuine reg/rec for this bike and also i have the service manual which shows it to have 7 wires...bit silly i should have really checked how many wires the RR85 has before ordering! really need to know if re wiring is possible or not...if so how?

Hurrah! welcome to life owning a curvy. My reg/rec went last summer, so I replaced it with a enw suzuki one; it was a differant design so I assume suzuki have designed a better one to allow heat to dissipate better and the thing not fry and stop working. It did cost £100, but IMO sourcing genuine parts is the best way to go
