Default Jag for sale!

The Jag is not for the faint hearted.....................................

1995 Jaguar XJR6 Four Litre Supercharged Auto - 322 Horsepower! limited electronically to 155 Mph, 0-60 6.5 seconds. 18-28 Mpg but beats most things in a cloud of dust.

Full Service History, 88000 miles - this is a baby, (they go on to well over 150 thousand miles, unlike the later V8 version) electric everything, powerfold mirrors, electric memory heated seats, Harmon Kardon top of the range 6CD, oatmeal leather, walnut inlays, rugs, sunglasses stowage, full original Jaguar toolkit, 18 inch, 9.5 J, XJR Alloys with new 265 tyres, full recent service, including front disks and all fluids, stainless exhuast, ABS, insurance group 20 (eeeeeek but can get classic insurance for ?450 with Footman - James).

Have all MOT's and Tax discs from birth and lots of history. This car has been shown at Jaguar Shows and was taken to the US by Jaguar when new, as flagship model in original launch colour. I used it as Suzannes Wedding car and it gains attention and respect from the dodgier parts of east London to the Swanky Hotels in the South of France.

When I worked at Jaguar I was responsible for the first prototype application of the Eaton supercharger on the AJ6 engine. I didn't do the production version, I just played with prototypes

We sent a car over to Eaton, between Detroit and Chicago, and they did the installation with a variety of bits of manifolds, charge coolers etc which had been developed for the still-born twin turbo engine (another story). We then had the engine back for calibration and a bit of short term test bed proving, sent it back over to Eaton and they and one of our engineers got the demonstrator up and running. It was a twin headlamp car, and we had to cut the inner lamp out on the left side for the new aircleaner (fitted auxiliary lamps to be legal).

The first one was only about 300bhp, they increased the capacity and speed rating of the supercharger before production so a bit more was available by then.

We fitted a "long axle" (2.88:1??) to make it more relaxed, and the Eaton engineers dubbed it "the sleeper" because it was so long legged (a bit too long really).

The car was written off when someone put it in a field off the Fosse Way, a dead straight road!!!

The old AJ6 was tough but pretty agricultural to be honest. Still a nice car.

Back in 1995/6ish I did 6 months temp work as a contract test driver at Millbrook Proving Ground, which is just up the road from here. We had a few prototype XK8s in at the time, one of which, a convertible, was only 3 months old but had been in the humidity chamber its whole life, it was damn near broken in two with rust and the interior was absolutely hanging - the ones we got to drive were prototypes and pretty shoddily built, but the production cars were much better. I also did some driving of the prototype Lotus Elise, but a fair amount of my time was spent driving MGFs, Daewoo Nubiras and Leganzas when they were being developed, or Astras and Vectras.

Some people think being a test driver is quite glamourous, but it's got to be the most boring job I've ever done.
