Default Hello...

Just bought an sv650s k3 after doing much homework (lots on here) as to what I should buy as a first bike
Well first bike in a long time would be more accurate. I did have a few ratty specimens about a fifth of a century ago...
I had planned to have passed my test before buying but I had the bloody thing cancelled a few days ago about half way through due to high winds.
It was quite annoying and they then told me i could have a free go but it would be on the 15th of February. I then found I couldn't wait any longer...
I know this is the wrong way to do it but I'd appreciate any advice on what I might need to look at which may not have been obvious during my delerious over excited inspection prior to begging the man in the shop to take my money.

Fantastic forum BTW

Latha math dhut ("Good day to you" in Gaelic). Thought I'd try and be original.

I bought my bike before passing my test despite being told not to by a biker friend of mine. However I found that after much research (on this site amongst others) that I had made the right choice. I found the SV relatively tame when 'giving it the berries' as opposed to my mates CBR600-RR which I've ridden a few times. As a bike for a newbie I don't think you can really do any worse. It's a great bike for cutting your teeth on because it is quite forgiving. I've ridden a GSXR-600 and thou, along with a CBR600-RR and a Blade (all within a short time of passing my test) and I can honestly that they have all scared the living **** out of me when they bite back.

While you learn there is really no better 'first big bike' than an SV. Keep it for a year or so then go out an play

I believe SV'ers make better bikers, cos I don't believe the SV is the easiest thing to learn on as it can be a snatchy wee devil and a bit, "immediate" on small throttle openings (why I love going daft on it!), but that learns you good throttle and clutch control early doors and thats what keeps you sunny-side-up. There is not an abundance of power(relative to an equivalent CC 600supasport) so you learn to keep braking to a minimum and practice proper lines and entry speed, then get satisfiying drive out the bends at any revs.

After 16yrs on bikes, I gave up the weed and rewarded myself with a 2nd bike. An SV. It still satisfys 3yrs,12k later.

Bad points?

It sounds like a Singer sewing machine on the standard humungi-exhaust, ditch, get "can" and start playing some satisfying "tunes".

TBH,your last line sums up motorbikes for me, "Delirious","Over excited" and "Begging" "Money"
