Default clutch/gear box problem

hi all,

after getting the bike cleaned up and new tyres fitted ready for some better weather i've noticed a problem with gear changes.

when the bike it doesnt want to go from 1st up to neutral. it jumps 1st to 2nd. now taking the bike out on saturday this was intermitent. its not me being heavy with changes either it just jumps past neutral and goes into 2nd. now if i turn the engine off and put the ignition on (but not staring the bike) it pops perfectly from neutral down to first and then back to neutral again.

could the lever just be stiff after sitting for most of winter? could something need adjusted? if so would i be able to fix it myself or best to go to a garage?? oh and its an '06 pointy! with just aout 5k on the clock
