Default Insurance 'total loss'

Ok, I've just heard my bike is deemed to be that by a shop. What exactly does that mean in the real world. Fank you in advance.

Cheers

You need to know how it is a total loss, and what wrong with it. If its CAT A or B they it can't be used on the road, however a CAT B could made into a track bike.

One of my old bikes was a total loss as it had frame damage, still only got a CAT C on it because i argued with the assessor saying that the bike was still ridable.

ridable only by you? or could I safley ride it aswell

total loss must be a term used to describe the mount of profit to be made on a damaged bike...i.e., this one wont sell, so its a total loss

It had no provision for a sidestand as it was snapped off the frame by 3rd party.

Yep, just need to get the old one welded back on to the frame, oh and sort the broken engine.

Total loss means the insurance company doesn't think its viable to repair and instead will offer you the money for what its estimated value is. Any bike that is written off in other words.

If its a Cat B or Cat C I would buy it back off them and either repair it for road use (Cat C) or as a track only bike (Cat B), if you are going to resell it after repair you have to state to the buyer that the bike is a Category A,B or C.
