I failed my DAS.
Mainly because I am an incompetent apparently and not because I wiped out into the instructor from behind at a roundabout! So after a few more lessons and a lot of soul searching, I have decided to give A2 a shot and see how I get on, this way I can ride any bike I like, providing it has it's lungs removed and replaced with a damp sponge! So my lovely dealer who is storing my bike until I pass my test is looking into a restrictor kit for me. It seems a bit sad to buy a nearly new SV650S in gorgeous silver and then cut its out put in half, but if that is what it takes, that is what must be done. Anyone else have to take this route? Any tips on what to expect, I am sure it will still out perform a manky and battered CG125! |

Sorry to hear that.
![]() How about just taking the DAS again, maybe with a few more hours with an instructor? I'm not sure what's involved in the 2 step process. But once you get it passed, then it's passed, if you see what I mean. Just don't give up. Not everyone passes first time (or second or third). YOU CAN DO IT!!! |

![]() Bad luck on the fail, just dust yourself off and get the extra tuition to get you up to test standard. You can do it I'm sure! Group hug to cheer you up ![]() |

Dont worry, the 125 way is a bit easier. I did the 125 (had to) but compared to the toher guys doing their DAS training, I got on alot easier, specialy with things like U-turns, slow manouvers etc.
A 33bhp SV is still an extremely handy tool. I have stupid amount of fun on my bike, without worrying too much about ham-fisted throttle openings causing the rear wheel to step out. I can still travel two-up with a loaded topbox and tank bag and hit 80mph (takes a while though) and along tight, twisty country roads, people on more powerful bikes dont get too far ahead of me, since theres not enough room to use full power on more powerful bikes anway. Which bits of DAS are you struggling with, nothing IMHO that more time on a 500 wont put right.

If its a help, I took the test four times before I passed......bloody u turns scared me stupid in a test for some reason, don't give up on the DAS, you've already spent good money....just keep plodding at it, you'll get there in your own time

![]() i'd echo what fizzwheel said, if DAS is what you want to do then persevere, if you compensate for nerves or unfamiliarity with a big bike by taking your test on a CG125 you'll still have to jump on the SV you've bought afterwards, it'll be just as big, just as heavy and even more different to handle compared to a CG125 instead of a GS500 oh, and i wouldn't say you're incompetant, that would imply that your riding isn't up to scratch but you don't care, you obviously want to improve and make the grade, don't let it put you off and don't compromise on what your aiming for just because of a minor setback like this

![]() Stick with the 500 if you can, it is a bit pffff being restricted, specialy if you can do a test where you dont need to be. Matt |

Dont worry about it just try again. If the above is really true though, just passing to get on the road is a big mistake you will be a danger to yourself and end up giving yourself an injury, take more lessons until you are more comfortable. Trying to find a rush way through isnt going to make you a safer rider. |
