Default Reg plates... part 2!

Well I went and bought a new one after mine mysteriously went missing the other night. Reported it to the police as I thought it was stolen cause it didn't look like it had broken off.

This morning it did break off! coming into work I didn't see a rather large pothole. Went over it and heard a crack but had no idea what it was. Rode the 600 yards I had left to get to the car park and when I got off the bike the reg plate had gone again although luckily for me this time it was hangin over the rear mudguard so I still have it. I reckon it's been sitting too low and hit the back wheel when I hit the pothole.

Problem I have is this - the rear indicators are built into the rear panels so the reg plate has to be kept low so people behind me can see them. Now I had one in the same holes for a year with no problems so cant understand why this is happening now. Any ideas as to what way I could do this guys? I'll attempt to attach an older rear end pic so you can see what I mean about the indicators although it's not that good a pic to be honest.

Ta.

happened to me too. The tail tidies can hold the plate in a vulnerable place. I just got a smaller plate and bent the bracket upwards as well as turning the preload up (can of worms time ) I also attached the place with cable ties for a while so it wouldn't 'snap' off if it hit - worth carrying some around with you in case it happens again.

Check your tyres all over for cuts- the plate can dig a hole down to the canvas

Smaller plate would definitely do it cause as you can see from the pic it was a small one on it originally but when I was reporting it to the police they warned me that there are a lot of new recruits just out on the road and they are pulling people left right and center for unofficial reg plates at the minute in my area cause they are easy arrests.

Don't want to make it easy for them.

Can you not hang the plate a little differently so its at more of angle so that the bottom of the plate is swung up and away from the rear wheel.

I've eaten a rear plate when I was out on Liz's Ducati, same problem as you I suspect I went over a bump and compression the suspension and the back wheel hit the plate. With the tailtidy on the Ducati its to much at a 90 degree angle to the plate so it sits really close to it, and thats with a 7 x 5 plate on it.

I was thinking that.

An angled piece of wood or something behind it just to lift it up a bit.

I need to do something.......can't keep replacing it every day lol.

Dude you can't be arrested for having a small number plate, I want to get the straight now. Its come under construction and use which is normally a £30 fine or you have to go to a mot station to get it verifed that you have a legal size plate on. They stamp a bit of paper.

The only way you can be arrested if you supply flase info such as name/address.

No not literally, you can't get arrested and taken to the station. It is an easy excuse for a wee tug though.

Right there is a load of talk, especially at the moment, about small number plates, legality, the risk etc...I've just bought my SV after not having a bike for a few years and yeah the tail is pure filth...it has to have a tail tidy but what is THE best & 'tidiest' tail tidy and legal plate combo?

suggestions / pictures?

cheers guys

Just got a new 7x5 for mine, have to admit though, despite it appearing to be the 'showplate' of choice as it doesn't take the p;ss, it is ever so small compared to the standard plate. Looks bloody good though and as my tailtiday is 7inches across fits perfectly.
