Why is it sunny every morning and early afternoon, only to turn to heavy rain as it comes to me going home?

This is apparently going to be the way the summer goes this year, much like in the south of france where they have scorching hot daytimes then in the evening immense electrical storms which clear the air for the next day.

3.30-4.30pm isn't exactly evening though is it?! Must be pretty heavy rain here in Leeds at the moment, it's setting car alarms off!!!

Edit, I tell a lie, it's hail. And that's at least 4 going off I can see and hear!
