Default Thank god times have changed

Browsing through my freebie edition 1 of BIKE Mag, I found this "test".

I remember wanting one of these or indeed anything with an aftermarket big tank, fairing, brake drum coolers, twin girlings and TT100's.

Looking now at the pics, noticing the cr@ppy front mudguard held on with Jubilee clips and the "handsome full fairing 24quid!" I wonder what I could have been thinking.

I wonder what emotions our bikes will stir in 35 years?

Incidentally, you'll notice the front "cheesecutter" number plate stuck on the side of the fairing. Classy.

This was my first big bike a Royal Enfield model J2 500cc.

Got it for 5 pounds, 7 pound for insurance.

As you say, thank God times have changed.

After looking at these pics I think I'd like another one for pottering about on. Strange

You just don't appreciate how much bikes have changed along with tyre improvements. My first decent bike was a bonnie, crap tyres, rod and cable brakes, plus the compulsory oil leak. A major achievement for you to get it to break the ton My opinion that if you ever have the chance to ride a 50-60's classic, take and it makes you appreciate just how/good/bad you really are.
It feels a much better impression of speed,I would rate the ton to be equivalent to a moderday bike being pushed to the 150+ limits

Ooh, a spoked wheel D model - had a couple of those, they're rarer than you think because most came with unpainted alloy wheels.

This was mine until about 5 years ago, when I sold all my RDs and bought a ZZR1100

All original with only 13000 miles on the clock, 10000 of them done by me over 12 years. That photo was taken just before I sold it.
