You'll get book value and cost of any additional extra that they were made aware of, anything else then you get nothing for it. Personally I would ask for the bike, could be repaired for road or race and any damaged parts could be sold on here or ebay as a lot of people only want a component of a part most of the time!
Phone the garage that the bike is at ask what they have done so far and state you are clearly the legal owner and they are not to proceed any further without your confirmation (give them your phone number). Phone the insurance company asap and ask what is going on, then state as you are the legal owner (presuming you haven't signed anything for the insurance company) and you have informed the garage not to proceed any further until you are satisfied with the final outcome! Good luck. |

A similar thing once happened to me, except it wasn't a claim I was making.
I put the bike in a garage on sale or return. I went in a week later and the bike wasn't there. I asked where it was and I was shown a pile of bits. "It had a rattle, mate" IIRC I said, "And you have a problem. It is 5pm and by 8.30 am it is going to be back together and working and ready for me to ride out to he showroom at your cost." The garage claimed they couldn't do that, so I conceded I was being unreasonable and gave them until 5pm the next day to return the bike in one piece, with the same engine and a stamped service book. The following morning (to make the story even more improbable) the garage was broken into and all the red bikes in the window were stolen, fortunately my red bike was still in the workshop in pieces. I actually rode past the garage that morning and saw 2 bikes parked outside and a couple of helmets on the floor. When I called in at 5pm to pick my bike up they hadn't fixed it - in all fairness they had been busy with the police. I got my own back. I said in front of the police that I had come to collect my bike that they had broken, the garage was unhelpful, at which point I dropped the fact that I saw the bikes that morning. Suddenly the garage were helpful. I got my bike back the next day, the garage closed 4 days later. I heard rumour that teh break-in was an inside job for insurance money. |

John they wont have broke it yet, mine also went to a breakers yard in darlaston but until the claim was sorted the bike just stood there, they wont be sure whats happening to yours so its prob just parked up, besides the breakers like to sell the whole thing first rather than take it apart.(if its cat c or d that is)

I can't believe the insurers are allowed to do that, but like Kwak says first thing to try is call all of them, might not be broken yet.
Same thing nearly happened to me, luckily the lady at the repairers that the rescue people had taken it to called me to let me know the bike was being sent for salvage, I managed to sort things out and go pick it up myself. If it happens again (and I'm conscious!) rescue truck will be told to take it to my place. But it takes the biscuit that the insurers can decide to send a bike for salvage without asking, and do so within 1/2 a day of getting the assessor's report, and then take 12 months before starting legal proceedings.
