Default Why buy a bike if you aint gonna use it?

Now clocked up 5000 miles on the bike in 11mths. I was reading a bike magazine today and I noticed how many bikes there are for sale which are
2, 3 and 4 years old plus which have 2,000 miles or so on the clock.

So why do people buy bikes if they aren't serious about using them?

Do some people buy them just to say they have a bike?
Just for use on Sunday afternoons?

Yes and yes!! .. any more questions!?!?

I think you will also find that a lot of people who get a modern bike scare the bejeebas out of themselves on them and prolly a little too scared to ride them ...

Also some people love the idea of having a bike, but due to work and/or family commitments never get round to riding them.

I have a nice black pointy and she is sitting in my garage, I like to look at her!!! She has not moved since August.

I don't even use her on a Sunday afternoon ... do I qualify ??

but very very soon I will be making up some miles on her and she will see the road again

Depends on what you consider using it.

Why does it bother you that there are so many low mileage bikes around?

I don't do thousands upon thousands of miles a year, but could afford it, so I bought it.

Or just don't know enough people with bikes... I'd like to do more days out on the bike - but don't know that many people over here with bikes (and can't afford the stack of speeding tickets I'll get if I do go out with the ones I do know) so I just use it for work mainly

TBH I ask this question more with people who drive convertables in the sun with the roof up They are out in the car and still not using it...

yep i bought mine just to look good and play carpark top trumps

some people wont clock up many miles as like me dont like riding in the wet and cr*p conditions when there are other forms of transport avalible.

for me the bike is a toy , an item for pleasure use and to keep in top condition.

saying that its done nearly 2500 miles in 5 months so aint bad for a "weekend warior" i suppose.

I bought mine for those days when I can get away without driving a car. My work supplies my car and expects me to use it during the week, frowned upon when I turn up on the bike, but I still do In saying that I've covered 800 miles in the last 3 weeks, and it's early days yet.
