Default Joining minitwins - a respectable laptime?

Hi, looking at going to minitwins quite seriouly, what is the general opinion about what a decent laptime is compared to the lap records shown below (you guys probaly already know them)

What is the front of the grid running at on average compared to the times below (e.g. +1 second)

What is the middle of the pack

What is the maximium time you can be doing to avoid be a pain in the a*s to everyone else. Basically going around at the back picking up experience.

Cheers for any answers

As long as your within 10 seconds of the record your not going to be dangerously slow or in the way, but you will be lapped. If you go to www.mylaps.com you can see the average lap times for the circuits as well as the outright records. You can also see the fastest time for each racer so you'l be able to work out where in the field your own times would place you.

Cheers for that I was just within 10secs of the lap record at silverstone national on sunday and knew I could do a lot better, cant get my head round the last 1/3 of the course, the left hander and the chicane.

Will have a detailed look at the laptime I have a little more time. I think I am going to try and get to the point where I am unlikley to be lapped before I start racing.

Just dive in, you'l improve far more while racing than on track days. You wouldn't be the only one getting lapped!

Can you start racing by paying race by race, after you have got your ACU licence of course? I cant really afford a whole or even half a season at the moment.

You can only pay at a race at a time anyway.

looks like I might join in the racing then. On a sidenote, with the time i was doing above what group should I be running on a trackday, I have been in the intermediate up to know but often found myself slowing to let more powerful corner and then disapear.

Id stick with the inters to be honest. The faster groups I tend to find are filled with a lot of primos. However there are a lot of really quick good riders in there too. I prefered being in the inters.

Hey guys probably a bit late to be any help now. Ive been trackdaying for a few years and always go fast. I find it's the best group for being on the same line and learning from others. You can still get caught up in the corners if there are a lot of road bikes there. I reckon the top rookies this year have been lapping consistenly 3 to 5 seconds off the lap records with a few exceptions. Test days before the meets are a must if you want to get your times down. I never used to bother but did the test day at Silverstone just gone and it did me wonders for qualifying.

'tomjones2' your best option would be to get to a BEMSEE Minitwin meeting and get the feel for it and talk to some of us and find out what the crack is, and (correct me if I'm wrong people) I think that you can participate in the friday test day without having to race at the meeting. This would be more helpful to you as you could find the lines and follow faster riders which would bring you along leaps and bounds
