Default Not convinced...

... that all the people displaying the Pre-booked only, Private hire stickers in the back windows of their cars are being truthful.

badge-small.jpg

Today saw a brand new 5 series BMW with them proudly slapped on the front and back screens.

And there seems to be so many of them who don't know how to drive.

Is it just a scam so they can get away with parking on a red route?

GRRRRR

Just my pet hate at the moment.

...and breath...ahhh

Actually they are MOST helpful.

If you see a People Carrier type vehicle with one on it then thats warning that the driver doesnt speak English, has never been near the Highway Code and got their License from a Frosties packet (the same one as the sticker came in)

At least thats MY experience.

Funnily enough I mentioned this to one fo the guys at work, on our way to grab lunch.... there seem to be thousands of these stickers about now, most seemingly not on private hire vehicles. But I guess you're right, it's just to fool the CCTV camera's I guess.

I'm sure that it was mentioned on Top Gear that registering your car as a taxi in London only costs a couple of hundred quid and it means you can use bus lanes etc. Does it also mean that you are exempt from the congestion charge?

i'm sure there probably are some scammers around (no system is perfect!) but the reason that you get suprisingly high value cars showing the sign is because chauffeurs also have to be registered with the Public Carriage Office. And incidentally they weren't best pleased about having to display the yellow + blue/white discs on their flash motors!!

so your 5-series was probably some banking big-wig out for lunch with his driver...

Yup Top Gear had the list of cars including Bentleys & Lambos - their take on it was to avoid congestion charge not red routes or bus lanes (I only see black cabs in bus lanes - isn't that the rule? which would be way more expensive to abide by)

Not sure but to beat the congestion charge it's still a good idea.
