Default Ever wanted to Marshal!?

If you've ever thought about marshalling and think you would like to marshal at British Superbike meetings (as well as World Superbikes and possibly MotoGP), then this could be the post for you!!!

Racesafe are now accepting applications for new marshals for the 2009 season.
There will be training days taking place for this throughout the country between January and March 2009 (dates and locations to be confirmed).

Their training is widely seen as the best motorcycle marshalling training there is, and many of their methods have been adopted by other british marshalling clubs.
I am an Incident Officer and absolutely love it (About as much as actually riding my bike!), and there's a good chance that if you're into bikes and bike racing, you will too!

Hope some people are interested and that I see some of you trackside next season!

All over the place!!

This year (my fifth season and second as an Incident Officer), I've been to Snetterton, Brands Hatch, Thruxton, Brands Hatch (again - re-run!)Donington Park, Mallory, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park all for British Superbikes.
Been to Brands Hatch for Word Superbikes too. (Would have been to the GP & WSB at Donington too, if Donington management hadn't thrown a hissy fit at the idea of Racesafe marshalling it! - polotics! )

Also have Croft (the weekend before my wedding!) and Brands Hatch (again!) to go!!

So...

Not many places then!!!!

I take it then you have to make your own travel arrangements or as you doing this all for free for them they pay for that?

Hmm, can't find anyting on the site about travel. Would be a deciding factor tbh. Don't mind doing the work for nowt but not travelling as well.

Unfortunately, you have to make your own arrangements... Doing the number of meetings that I do, this gets expensive (especially now fuel's so bloomin' expensive!).
When I started, I was only going to marshal at the meetings I would have gone to as a spectator (there's no minimum). This idea lasted for about half of my first day, as I got so in to it!

The cost of fuel this season certainly seems to have had an impact on the number of marshals at each meet and has stopped me going to as many as I would have liked to (oh - and the fact we're planning a wedding - which is 2 weeks tomorrow! ). If I'd have had it my way, I'd have been at every round!

There are plenty of marshals that do just one round... If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have enough marshals for most of the rounds and therefore there would be very little (or no) racing!!!

Training? Pah! I marshalled for the first time on the Isle of Man and I hadn't even sobered up from all-day session the night before, let alone been trained.
