Default Sticking Idle Speed

When I stop the idle will sit at 2000 for a few seconds then drop to 1500, any idea what this could be. Also when I twist the throttle, sometimes the engine will slightly splutter then its fine, could the issue's be linked ??

The "hanging up" when you blip it could be lean running, this IME seems to be more of 1 or 200rpm rather than 500 though. Is it running right? Drinking fuel? Smelling of fuel? Popping and banging more than normal?

Could be choke plungers, or maybe clogged jet or air leak, choke is most likely IMO

Carbs badly balanced can also give very wierd running.

Does about 130 miles before the light flashes, does smell lean sometimes but don't most bikes ?

It only pops and bangs when I RED LINE it.

I will take a look at the choke, Thanks

She has a manual choke too, same as every othe curvy

What happens is they stick, so instead of the spring returning the plungers, the lever moves but just slackens the cable, the plungers remain out giving it a wierd mixture.

"Grease em up baby"! Sorry erm yeah, going with Yorkie on that one, or possibly even your cable is not adjusted right. Mine is an 4rse at the mo, you have to turn it half the way before it even thinks it wants to choke.

Or replace the choke cable cause they stick at the joint!

First step is to take the choke cables off at the carbs and see if they look to be returning freely.

If they are not, then you could try lubing the cable, but chances are they are well fooked!!

So at that point you have nothing to loose by cutting the cables do you

That is what I'd do next. Chop the cables just above the bit that screws into the carbs. Then put the plungers, springs etc back in the carbs and screw them back in again ... and see if the bike runs better ... obviously the bike will now permanently effectively be in the choke-off position ...

Either way you need new cables now, but you will be surprised how you might not NEED the choke to start the bike anyway .. especially now it is getting milder ... you just need to play with the throttle a bit to make it catch ...
