A question that my good (or bad) lady asked me yesterday..
"Why do you ride.. what do you like so much about being on a bike.." i couldnt tell her because to be honest i dont know.. its like an abnormal attraction to them..*(in a non dodgy way hovis/plowsie) One day i broke up with my EX the next day i thought.. i want a bike, never really thought to much about them before then but all of a sudden i was hooked.. then began the long process of getting one then the SV afterwards.. and secondly (in her own words) "What makes you want to thrash a bike round a track at stupid miles an hour with no REAL gain or purpose other than to kill your self" at which point i got my leathers on and grabbed my keys lol, so i dont know... I DONT KNOW.. but id never stop now unless i was forced too! . . .at gunpoint.. so why do you lot do it? |

The feeling of having the wind in your hair. Nothing beats giving it a handful or scraping your sliders around a loveley long bend or just to pootle along some countryside enjoying the view.
Amen to bikes! |

Personally, I got into biking cos I was sick to death of it taking me 2+ hours to travel 35 miles to work. Most of those "wasted" hours were spent watching bikes filter past me ... they may well have only been going 30mph (ish) but it was still 30mph (ish) faster than I was going.
However, once I got on the a bike, I dunno ... something just happens ... you get this immense sense of satisfaction at being able to accelerate to 60mph (and beyond) quicker than any 4-wheeled vehicle that most of us could afford! Then there's the whole idea of throwing your bike into corners whilst leant over that gives you an immense feeling of satisfaction ... it's almost like you feel like you've proven science wrong ... and that gravity doesn't seem to have the same effect when combined with centrifugal force ... I dunno, maybe all that science bit is rubbish, but what the hell ... it gives you a great feeling ![]() To quote Swiss here ... that feeling of "nailing" a corner faster than you thought you could is like making love to a beautiful woman ![]() Who cares anyway ... just enjoy!!!! ![]() |

The 3 dimensional experience of combining movement of body and machine to achieve a state of cornering perfection, balancing a myriad of forces to reach a near nirvana like state of mind resulting from concentrating so strongly and purely on such a singular and pure action.
That's why I ride, and ski. |

I love starting the SV, especially with the new can and system on it, there's usually a little pop then it just snarls into life. Musical hehe. That and some of the local twisties are really bumpy, great sense of satisfaction to give it a handful round a tight bend when you can feel the front end go light and start to shake a little, but control the understeer and just fire out of the corner. Like a mini tankslapper, but pervesely enjoyable when you deliberately poke the bike with a stick and cause them ![]()

As some may have seen, I came off today (see other post) but, I ride because I always wanted to do it, now, having been riding for a few months I'm loving it. Didn't enjoy today, for obvious reasons, but love the feeling of just me on the road and every action I make having an instant and enjoyable reaction.
