Hi All,
I dropped my bike in a controlled manner on the left side today. Barely touched the ground but now the bike won't start. Lights go on so I don't think it is anything battery related. Tried to push start it but no luck. Any suggestions? Many Thanks, Ihitge |

Check the side-stand switch, and also the clutch switch, they might have got bent or something like that?

Thanks - I checked the stand switch, seems to be fine. Where is the clutch switch situated?

Under the clutch lever on the perch, it is a small black connector which runs from the switch gear to two pins on the clutch perch.
The picture below is not a SV but you should get the idea... ![]() Last edited by Dangerous Dave; 01-09-08 at 05:01 PM. Reason: Picture Added |

Thanks Dave - I checked it and everything seems to be intact.

Is this an injected or carbed bike? A bit more info would be useful, also what you have checked ect.

Sounds daft (but nearly everyone has done it), have you knocked the kill switch when picking the bike up?

I was going to post exactly the same thing.
![]() I almost dropped my RVF400 onto it's left side some years back, then spent a frantic hour trying everything (sidestand switch, bump starting, working through the alarm/immobiliser possibilities etc). I must've knocked the kill switch ever so slightly whilst grappling with the bars to not let her fall over; the switch LOOKED like it was fully "on" but it was not quite flat against the stop - obviously just enough to prevent any ignition and enhance my embarrassment. After rocking the switch to fully off, on, off then on again, ![]() Needless to say, I felt very silly. Just as well no one was around! So, after all that, I hope it's that simple. It didn't occur to me initially to look for things on the right side of the bike 'cos the drop was to the left. If it's not ![]() p.s. Separate issue: Can you imagine me, 6ft5in, riding an RVF400? I never needed to lock it, I could just pick it up & put it in my pocket after arriving at my destination...

It is sorted! Had to over ride the clutch kill switch with a hairpin.
Thanks for all your help and quick responses. |
