Default No Escape - average speed cameras being rolled out

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...cle4909662.ece

Like the title says, average speed cameras are being rolled out on roads that lack roadworks in an attempt to enforce speed limits more rigidly. The article says they can cover an area of up to 15 miles - anyone who's been through the M1 roadworks knows just how ****ing boring it is to spend such a huge period of time staring at your speedo to avoid a fine.

I've no problem with this cameras being used in 20mph limits to enforce them; there's enough idiots who tear through them without thinking about why such a low limit's in place. Long rural A roads, on the other hand?

from my experience of average speed cameras, the 'film' or record the front number plate on a car.

Where does the front number plate on a 2000 curvey SV attach, mine must of fallen off.

Is this new news Nottingham/Nottinghamshire has had average speed spec cameras for the last 6 years.

And all I ever hear every morning is that the M1 is closed between 6 and 10......or 26 and 27 because of an accident or a breakdown help they do not.

"long stretches of A road"

long stretches of a road with corners?

long stretches of a road that nobody speeds on anyway?

long stretches of a road that nobody speeds on anyway with corners that reduce the vehicles average speed?

has anyone thought this through?

I like the way that instead of looking at the road your constantly watching your speedo while prams, kids, people go flying over your bonnet

We there was a sad incident just yesterday where a member on here seems to have got caught out clock-watching past a static camera. I hate the average cameras, so much attention is taken from the road.....

Pick a nice A/B road, have a blast down it.

When you see the second yellow box (assuming it's yellow), pull over & congratulate yourself on wearing away more chicken strips, or getting your knee down X times etc etc.

Then continue, and trigger the second camera. Average speed depends on how long you stop, but easily well within the limit at all times officer!

At most you need to check your speed every 30 seconds or so, it's easy to tell if you're accelerating or not. The real problem here is that people treat the speed limit as a target- if you're driving in a 30 and you want to constantly drive at 29.99999mph then you need to clockwatch to avoid creeping up, but if you drive sanely at a wee bit under, then if your speed wanders a wee bit there's no problem. Anyone riding or driving and constntly checking their speed is an accident waiting to happen it's true, but that's not because of speed cameras, it's because they're dangerous drivers.

IMO

I presume there'll still be the 10% +2mph thing?
