Default Chain fitting help

I was trying to fit the soft link on the chain before taking it to the shop to get it rivited, and as usual I ran into a problem

The circled part is not straight and there is about a 4mm free movement of the roller, but only on this part of the chain. Is that bent or normal? Im thinking bent.

Please someone tell me im not going crazy!! This bike is taking sooo long to fix!!!

Need more info, can you put up pictures of the actual chain parts you're attempting to fit? This would help as it's not to me clear what bits don't fit or are distorted.

Ive put the parts away for the night, will try take a pic 2mor. Its the link, not the roller that is pushed out, giving the roller excess free play between the links on either side of it. if that makes sence?
