Default Has anyone ever built a go-kart

Has anyone ever had an attempt at building a go-kart? Whether it be one powered by a chainsaw, lawn mower, motorbike engine?

Just thinking about doing this as a little project but with 2 scooter engines and wheels mounted at the back of a frame for the power with the throttles linked up. I think it would be quite easy.

By the way if no one has searched on youtube for gixxerkart and motorbike gokart etc get it done.

lol "I think it would be quite easy" Famous last words

If you're gonna do it then might as well do it properly with a proper motor. What happened to your bandit? hmmm....

Dammit good point.
I want to do it on the cheap side tho and 2 50cc engines would have enough speed I think?

Not really much cheaper than a motor from something with a bit of poke though

You could get a SV engine pretty cheap at a guess and you can get falco engines for about £300 on Ebay sometimes... All you'd need are the electrics and away it will go Muha ha ha hahahahahahahah

Lol... falco electrics... and TB's... and rad ... and airbox ... and pipes (maybe...)

Easier to start with an air or oil cooled motor, definately one with carbs.

OK bring me a motor, a load of tubing, bearings n stuff, some shockers etc and we'll see what can be done.

Oh in fact best stop off and get us another pack of tobacco on the way...

half the fun would be building it myself, then having it fall apart and creating "version 2"

Thats why I was thinking scooter engines. I think it would cost much less and the design would be very easy.

Remove it at the swing arm pivot and take out all the wiring. There you have it an engine, brake, wheel, exhaust and suspension. Build a basic box frame around it to house it all with a pivot point at the front and something for the shock to attach to and hay presto. Two of these and then your on to building the rest!

Figure out a way to steer the bloody thing and the good part about the scooter engines no need to worry about drive chain and rear axle!
