imagine this if you would........
i was coming round for tea  and you had been cooking away for some time, after the normal crap we get down to businesssit down at the table and i wolf mine down by the time your only a third of the way through yours and lastly who is inviting me round for tea? |

I suppose it's polite to eat at the same pace, but it's also good that the food was liked enough to be wolfed down so quickly. No, that's not an invite.

If it's at home I don't mind so much and would offer seconds. If we were out, I would (especially as some waiting staff have no sense of etiquette and snatch the plate away as soon as you've finsihed, leaving one person with an empty place, and the other feeling under pressure to eat up)
