I suppose 15w fork oil is too much for bog standard sv650s forks?
/eyes half dozen bottles of said fork oil I have aquired..... Is it wrong to ask if its OK for 400four forks as well? |

Depends how fat you are
![]() But as a puny 10st weaking I can say that 15w is far too much. Ok on smooth roads, but anything other than billard table smooth has my fillings rattling! I was going to swap to 10w, but I've got a GSXR 750 front end to swap with the SV front end, so I may not get round to it.

15W in winter is quite heavy, I got on fine with it in summer (at 11 stone, back then) but in winter it was pretty horrible for someone of my weight. With standard springs it'll give you pretty slow rebound I reckon, I never ran it that way but I'd be surprised if it turns out different.

You might be ok, as you're a bit heavier than me. This isn't the time of year for testing out how your forks feel anyway

I'm really interested in this topic - my suspension goes thunk every time I hit a pothole or speedbump (specially in this freezing weather) and I end up needing replacement head bearings every year or two. Is this down to heavy fork oil or could it be something more sinister?
I have noticed it takes more effort to pump the forks (holding the front brake)in this cold weather. Any ideas anyone? |

![]() 15w is fine with that set up. As Northy says...in summer. I'm not sure how it is in winter as Suze is layed up again. May I suggest a little concoction mixed up to make 12.5?? I had this in my black SV with my ohlins springs when I bought it...and it was peachy..in fact it was pretty perfect. I'm only just shy of ten stone, 15w is a little stiff, but nothing too harsh for me in summer. next time I have the oil changed in Suze i'll be having a little concoction made up to 12.5 With the full Hagon set up, the SV clunk is less on Suzy. I'm waiting for YC to work his magic in a week or three on Dave, and put in the shock I got off Pete n Lissa, as I've had front end trouble with clonks recently, although its got new forks, headraces and new oil and such, I am running the theory that the shocks foobarred and is putting extra strain on the front end

I thought it'd be not enough fork oil? Check the how to's on the .org and get it done, also if you do change your head bearings swap em for tapered ones, bit more hard wearing I think. It may well be the weight of oil though if your using 15 now drop to 10? If you hear a thunk hough I would've thought they were bottoming out so make sure you have enough fork oil 15wt if your over 13st (I think - someone clever will correct me) and check everything on your front end is tight, wheel, disks, stem nut etc.

I too have 15w oil and Hagon springs. I find it miles better in winter and summer. I'm about 11.5 stone.
