Default Question For Employment Experts

Where Pete works the management have decided to change working practice, and impose new conditions. Pete and everyone else on his shift are concerned that some of the changes will be open to abuse, and make it very easy for someone with a grudge to cause problems for another staff member. They are therefore unwilling to sign to say they understand and accept these new conditions.

The management are now trying to force them to sign, whether they agree or not. Can they do this?

Does he have a union rep there? In a previous job they changed the hours of work and whilst it was under the EU max hr limit it was more than I was doing. After a set amount of time ( 6 months or something ) I would have accepted the new conditions as I had been working them even if it wasnt in my original contract.

The management can't force them to sign, but as posted above, you don't have to sign to say you accept new terms and conditions. by working them for a certain period you are deemed to have accepted them. Not sure what this period would be but I'm sure it's less than 6 months.
