Default Removing lower fairing

Hiya peeps,

I have been trying to clean the engine/downpipe benind the lower fairing with it still on, alot of effort with not much reward!!!

I see the lower fairing has 3 fixing points on each side which i'm confident in removing.

What i'm not confident on is removing the 4 plastic rivets which hold the two fairing sides together underneath.

Is there a knack to remove these rivets?

Do they seperate easily?

Do they have a tendancy to break?

The bike is a pointy.

Thanks in advance.

I managed to take it off whole and left the plastic rivets in place (as I've heard once they've been taken out they basically need replaced as they will not be as secure again). I put a cushion under the fairing and slipped it under from 1 side as its actually pretty flexible. You also have to remove 2 bolts (1 each side) from the upper fairing to remove the lower fairing.

u can take it off as a whole piece but the rivets do come out and will fix secure again, they usually covered in crud and need some persuasion to come out

Not sure exactly what type of plastic rivet they are but for a lot of the ones used on the SV what you can do is push the centre of the rivet further in which effectively "unlocks" it. The when you come to re-install them, remove them from the fairing and push the little pin back through so it sticks up, put in back into the fairing and press the pin in so it sits flush.
