Default Scottish Carousel

Things are starting to take shape on this one ,an excursion from Essex
Dates 19th-30th June

Frid 19th Arrive Melrose
Sat 20th Melrose-- Aberdeen hugging the East coast 170miles
Sun 21st Aberdeen-- Dornoch via Nairn 150miles
Mon 22nd Dornoch--Durness via Wick 160miles
Tue 23rd Durness--Ullapool via Scourie 70miles
Wed 24th Ullapool--Broadford via Strath 140miles
Thur 25th Broadford--Broadford, tour the I of Skye 140miles
Frid 26th Broadford--Oban 130miles
Sat 27th Oban-- Stirling 1/2day Touristy bit 90miles and a break before setting off home.
Sun 28th Stirling southwards via The Tartan Track

These days are all based on a 9:30--10:00am start and being at the Youth Hostels for 5:00pm
to enable time for a shower/change before evening meal/festivities and plenty of time for cuppa breaks during the day for fuel, lunch or have a looksee and photo's

Staying in YH[£15-£17PER NIGHT PER PERSON] avoids having to carry camping gear, cheap and cheerful, plus lets you vary the numbers and still be all together.[2008price=£131:75 for 9 nights]

Anybody joining for any bit post up,by the way mileages are approx but can be used as a rough guide to each day

I'll meet you in Dornoch after work on the Sunday and then on the Wednesday I'll p/o at Kyle of Lochalsh. It's on the kitchen calendar and everything!

Mac, Marc, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Combine the Scottish Carousel and the Round the Houses tour's from the Forth Bridge to Oban and do the section KG posted up today on the 17th, 18th, 19th? And the Oban to Arran to Home section on Saturday 27th?

Ralph,The one small problem being holiday leave that people have booked off work, but I'm sure some parts will overlap, if not by route,at least for a bit of evening banter.

Looking for some suggestions regarding pub life in Aberdeen for the Sat night, decent cheap meal and entertainment for "senior" teenagers preferably within crawling distance or a short cab ride from the YH

Anywhere in the Belmont area of Aberdeen is good drinking. Me and a few of the Spearies am sure would be willing to help you find a drinking hole or two when you are up this way.

Cheers

Seriously tempted by this - tho I would maybe end up spending the Aberdeen night 35 miles west in Alford @ my mums

SK, that would be no problem, even if you wanted to spend a couple of days and rejoin in Ullapool,Broadford or Oban, alternatively peel off and pop home to your mums for the night and rejoin in the morning
The whole thing is meant to be a Carousel where people can get on and off the ride.
Hopefully we can meet some new faces this year, have a think about it

Cumfy, yeh that looks good as it is only about a mile away from the YH[AB15 4ZT] so a walk down and a cab back would do fine.
Thanks
Mac

That would mean nearly a 2 week pass from my intended, , Planning to do the southy bit in March before i go to usa or ay the worst april when i get back, The rest i can pick up wth this tour, only requiring some additional miles from skye to stirling.

Hovis's tour in may, i may do the skye to stirling bit before or after that depending on when i'm staying in colonsay,

That would allow me to potter about with mac and the boys the whole way, rather than blasting in a couple of big mile days, which would be the prefered option.
