Default SV1000 fork seal changing.

Having some difficulty changing the fork seals on my SV1000.

I've got the fork cap and fork seal circlip removed but the two halves of the fork won't come apart. Is there something else I need to undo, or am I just not pulling hard enough?

You'll need to slide hammer them apart, I don't think you need to undo the bolt at the bottom but check this in the manual. I think carl salter will have them on his site.

Bolt at the bottom must be removed, you may need the tool to hold the cartridge so it doesn't spin uselessly when you're trying to get the bolt out. I've never managed to get said bolt out of said fork without restraining the cartridge, even with a rattler the sodding thing just spins, you may be luckier than me.

Ah crap I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that - not even sure I've got a tool that'll reach the bolt let alone hold the cartridge

As usual, you're right. All bodge efforts to restrain the cartridge have failed miserably so far. I was hoping to avoid having to pay a stealership, but I think I might be stuck.

It's not stuck, it's threadlocked.

You need a tool to hold it - like this one here.

i did mine the other day, just undid it before taking fork cap off. tht way the pressure of the spring is holding it down. it did work for me but maybe some ones been in there before and put a little too much tread lock.

I'm stuck, not it

I'm guessing you meant to include a link?

Have you tried putting the spring back in and the cap on? Seems to work on damper rod forks.

That worked when I had the same trouble getting the forks apart on my 650...
