Question Starting/Idling problem - GSXR750.

Problem I've had for the last week:
- When I start her up from cold she doesn't idle correctly and drops to around 1k before cutting out.
- She idles correctly only after I rev it to 9k odd and let the revs fall to 1.5k, which i've increased over the 1.3k as per the manual
- This only happens on the first start of the day and is fine thereafter

Just wondering if anyone has any quick ideas why it's doing this, it's a 750K6 btw

No issues with mine, but it's pretty low mileage (4k kms). The one thing I have had is the FI light flashing occassionally if I start it up quickly after stopping it. Sorted by leaving it off for a few moments.

Have you enquired on GJ's?

I havn't enquired on gj.net though I have a feeling it could be the spark plugs so I might wait to see if the 15k service fixes it.

The F1 problem is almost certainly the set valve in the exhaust system. It's been a thorn in my side for too long now so I just removed the whole thing including servo and cables on the weekend. See here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bjKQYc0vcE. The valve closes at low revs to get a pass on noise emissions and supposedly give a better throttle response when you disable it. Otherwise you could try lubing it but the problem kept coming back for me.

My intial thoughts lie with the exhaust valve aswell; my dad has had problems with his, and his bike has only done 8500 miles.

My dad has been servicing his K6, and while he has had the tank up he notied alot of wires exposed to the airflow...it looks like moisture can get in easily here? Maybe this is soemthing you can look at?

Coolant or oil temperature sensor not giving it enrichment when cold is a possibility. I'm not sure of exactly how it's metered though.

Id agree completely. Only thing you can do till its sorted is start the bike with about 1/4 throttle and then hold it at about 2-3K rpm for a minute and then leave it and it should sort its self from there. I4's can usually idle at standard idle quickly...

I tried holding 3k revs when this problem first happened to no avail. The only thing that works is blasting the throttle over 50% for a split second and it's fine after that, this is why I'm not inclined to think it's due to temperature. I might make a vid next time I take it out.

Strange!

Which way is it with the Exup valve thing? Is it open at high RPM and closes more at low RPM... Knowing that dont help really either. Unless it closes too much when its cold and needs the high revs to open it up enough to allow it to breath out at tick over?

I dont know... just throwing in semi-inteligent idea's now

I'm wondering if its something to do with getting air into the engine; check the air filter...is it clogged? My dads was pretty bad...alot worse than my SV one...?

Hmmm. But then it would have the problem all the time. Sigh. Does the the GSXR ignition richen on cold start or just open the throttle a little like mine?

I think if you find the answer then let us know!! Id be interested to know if any of my wild accusations are correct lol. Blind luck if they are like

Out of interest you tried google? Google is your friend
