Default New(ish) R1

Picked up a new to me 2001 R1 today . I thought how much harm can it do to try open throttle on a straight road in 3rd. Front wheel off the ground at silly speed and scary/violent steering slap on touch down followed by a slow careful ride home. So looking for a steering damper as I intend to do couple of track days and dont want to try that again-not sure if there is anything I did to provoke it- no front brake etc?
Also it has a Scorpion silencer and standard which are a bit long- can I stubby it or should I just ebay it and buy something else- what do I need to do it and will it mess up the fueling

Feel quicker than the BB? Nice one, but stubby that exhaust!

Difficult to say which is quicker - at the moment I would be quicker round a track on the Blackbird but obviously if I can get a bit more used to the R1 which is easier to corner and manage to get to the track without launching myself sideways into a hedge then who knows. Might have to get a trailer.

The BB would probably pull a trailer easily

Last of the carbys that one? Nice bikes, sounds like you're having fun with the power

For a cheap way you could probably retrofit the steering damper from a newer model. Dunno why it went wobbly on you, perhaps you landed it slightly crossed up?

Managed to find a used ohlins. Need some rivets for the can - where can I get some? Already posted a pic - there. Probably moved the bars before landing.
