Default New Test On Telly

Anyone else just seen the report on Calender News?
New test center at Rotherham had 4 people in to do it today.
Out of 4 two failed and two binned it.
What's everyone's thought on the new test.

it's not any harder than anything else you have to do, so shouldn't be harder to pass test, just takes longer as it's different parts. i mean ,i presume they teach you what you have to do, and if you fail you'r a numpty.

I suppose.
It's unfortunate that a couple came off though. It might put them off riding all together before they even started.

both my parents have done the new test (got offered) they have licenses and are adanced riders they even found it hard, you have to go round a bend at such a speed on a 125 to get up to 40 to go through the speed trap, my dads friend an instructor wore away alot of his boot because he couldnt move it back enough. its not going to be easy to pass

Just watched this...nothing seems that challenging, but I imagine that the majority of people might get confused with the layout etc. The U turn bit looked a lot wider than the road I did my U turn on!

IIRC the new confined section has five significant riding tasks. When I learned the area was already marked out so I got to try some. Here's my thoughts on doing them on an SV...
Ride at walking speed - a doddle once you've got some clutch control. The SV is nice and stable at low speed.
Slalom between cones - not much fun on an SV, but straightforward on a driving school bike like the ER5 I learned on.

Figure of eight - the bigger turning circle of the SV would just mean you needed (lots) more tarmac compared to a driving school bike.

Half circle then emergency stop - fun on an SV where you've got lots of midrange acceleration and good brakes.

Half circle then swerve - mmm, don't know about this one. Too easy to bin the bike by hitting the front brake.
Just my thoughts,

Keith.

Is there anyone about, who happens to be an instructer or something, who'd let me try this new test? Just the off-road bit itself, surely would take just 10 minutes.. Having passed my full test before this was introduced it'd be interesting to see how it compares. I can travel (Berkshire please though..) and I'll give you money for a beer.

What do you need that for ?

I am sure that you can get the details of the layout from the DVLA, then just spray up some old coke cans to use as cones and get down your local supermarket some evening after closing time and mark up your own area - take some mates to make it worth the time to mark it up - and remember to take your "cones" with you when you go.

Although I didn't pass mine the first time i found the test to easy. I think in the long run it may make those that pass better riders. With regard to the cornering shizz my personal opinion that is a good idea, how many straight line weekend warriors do you see out that can't corner, this may adapt corner speed.

Yeah all is not fair on the newb riders but still, the reason it has been adapted is to make them better riders and not have to learn as much on the road. I never used to think about my corner speed that much, til I rode with Baph lol.

Disclaimer: you never stop learning!
