Default Honda CB200

Hello folks,

Firstly, sorry if I shouldn't be posting this on a Suzuki forum.

Thinking of getting one of these old bikes as a 40th birthday present to myself. No other reason than nostalgia really......my grandad used to own one and I have lots of fond memories of it (apart from the little scar on my knee from when I came off it...but I'm even glad of that...anyhow).

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of these bikes and would I be landing myself in a pot of trouble - I'm not really mechanically minded apart from the real basics (brakes, sparks, oil etc) so if anything went wrong, I'd more than likely be paying someone to rectify.

Just don't want to be in a postition where I am throwing money at it week in week out.

Thanks to everyone with advice.

I had one breifly about 12 years ago and I can honestly say it's the worst bike I have ever ridden! If you want one for nostalagia reasons buy a nice looking one and leave it in the garage and just look at it.

Really? Wasn't that bad when I rode one, but I was about 10, sitting on the petrol tank with my grandad doing all the steering, gear changes etc behind me !

You are probably right...but I still want one

I owned one very briefly, couldn't make my mind up about it, but 1 thing that did drive me up the wall was the cable operated front disc, what a pain in the rear.
Sounded well, but nothing special really, just your usual old Honda

You should be able to get spares still from David Silver at very reasonable prices

To be fair, I'm not expecting it to set my pants on fire from the riding experience. I know 17bhp is going to be a bit 'sedate'.

I was more concerned with reliability, how easy they were to work on etc. Not really interested in getting one if its going to take pots of money to keep on the road.
