Default Chain sideplate missing!

Picture this if you will. This morning while taking the bike out of what exists of my shed:
I began to roll her back and out of the door until something snagged and stopped me. DOH! disc lock pinned through the sprocket so I bend down removed the offending disc lock and glance at the chain which I only oiled last night before taking it out for a spin after giving her her weekly bath.

I freeze in horror at what I see!

And again...
VERY LUCKY INDEED!

oops!

Assuming that's the rivet link / spring link you'll be wanting another one. If not and it's a standard link then I'd be replacing the whole chain.

Why did you risk riding it to the garage when you knew the condition of the chain?

Wouldn't have been the best idea I would've thought.

Glad you got it sorted without any dramas though.

I dont have the chain link tools, so it needed to go to a garage.
Short of getting the bloke to come collect it in his van my only choice was to take the b roads and take it easy. It's my only transport so I needed it fixing asap.

I'd obviously been riding with it broken already so another mile wasnt likely to be critical. All in all I was less than 30mins late for work which they didnt even notice

If you rode it to the garage to get a new split link, why not just get them to rivet a proper link in while you are there?

I would only ever use a split link to get me to a place that can sort it out properly.....

That may well be what he did, I may be using the wrong terms but what ever he did i'll be checking it quite often.
