Default Bl00dy bike! (seized sprocket)

Just got a call from my mechanic- fitting the chain and sprockets is likely to cost treble what I expected cos the front sprocket is completely seized on.

Do other bikes seize their bits anywhere nearl as badly as an SV?

Has he not got a breaker bar or and impact wrench?

I've got a 12v impact wrench (meant for undoing wheel nuts on a car) that I use to undo the front sprocket nut

As for costing treble he's taking the pee!!!

Yeah he's saying that because he will need to buy the wrench to take it off!
Mechanic's should have no trouble at all with stuck nuts?

I am starting to reconsider who I use for fixing my bike.

Considering the way the cost for the replacement dashboard (+wiring repair) escalated.

That said, he actually cost far less when my clutch needed sorting.

But the chain has only been on there for 12-14 months. And an experienced mechanic should have tried and tested ways of sorting seized bolts etc?

Exactly Right.
Just tell him that someone will do it cheaper with the right tools and go and pick it up.
I had troubles with my front sprocket and my dad got me an early present.
Battery powered Impact Drivers are great!

i would agree with this statement, he is a motorcycle mechanic and should be prepaired for this type of problem

I've told them to get on with finishing it- I need the bike and haven't the time to start phoning round, but I will be seiously questioning them when I get in to pick it up tonight.

They are expecting it to be £120+vat for 3 hours work. So I'll expect some serious evidence of seizing for that.

Was the sprocket replaced then also? If so was it this mechanic that fitted it?
