"The How do you get so many miles from your tyres" thread seems to have gone a bit off topic so I've continued the sub-topic here cos its quite an interesting one.
Basically people are questioning what do you get out of a tank. Some people it seems have a really poor economy from thier bikes. I commute on motorway and duel carriageway so its not slow and steady riding. Much accel and breaking and filtering so I go from 80ish on the clearer stretches and 70ish if filtering on mway to 30ish in the duel carriageway filtering its a 16mile trip I do that twice a day, therefore 32miles a day and a tank of fuel lasts me from full to flashing light 5 working days no trouble. Thats roughly 160miles on £11. Whats your stats??? |

On average I got around 100-110 miles before the fuel light started to flash on my Barcelona trip. During normal daily use I'm not so sure as I only commute 5 miles to work everyday and then 5 miles back.
I'll fill up tonight and let you know when it needs filling up again. |

I seem to average 120 miles for every 10 litres (55 MPG) and that's mixed A/B roads and city riding.
On a motorway run (sitting at 70... sure ![]() Be interesting to see how it compares - I haven't read the other thread yet. |

I got to 160 before fuel light (last time), that included commuting on Motorway, Dual carriage way and twisty A road. Also 70 miles of "fun" Whitby coast road among others if people know it? Anyways, that gives me a MPG of 44. (160 miles 16.5Litre's (3.6Imperial Gallon).
If I was to just do my commute with no fun I can get 50mpg. ![]() On the SV I normally got 60-75mpg depending on riding. Liam, how is your bike limited? Im guessing not ECU, Smoggy had similar MPG problems and it was the crappy limiter... Last edited by ThEGr33k; 03-06-09 at 12:57 PM. |

Mine is a 99 curvey, mostly for commuting which is a 6 mile city type ride at mostly 30 with some filtering, and quite a few sets of traffic lights.
If I do just the commuting and no travelling or fun riding, my light comes on at around 120miles. So 140ish out of a tank. I think that sounds a bit low, but interested to see what others are getting. |

about same, but on motorways. I tend to be in a hurry so i've seen the upper end of 110 on clear stretches.

Sorry, bit too geeky but my stats collected over the course of a year average out at:
SV650s Sport K6 Fill up: £13.99 (bear in mind that covers when petrol was at 120p +) Fuel price: 105.1p litres: 13.8 (so I've usually had around 3.5 left in it) MPG: 55.1 Miles between fuel stops: 170.4 Pence Per Mile: Fuel: 9p Tyres: 2p Average miles per tank: 206.3 (assuming by calculation that I ran it to empty) Reserve Capacity: Flashing (4.5L left so I was told) 54.6 miles Solid (1.5L left) 18.2 I will usually risk 2-3 trips to work (each way not both) from when it starts flashing and I've not run out yet. closest I got was 1.11L left. Only twice have I managed to make the bike to less than 50mpg, I got 44.5 on one fill up and the tank would only have got me 166 miles then. The bulk of my miles is work commuting 13 miles each way rural A and B roads, but contrary to the stats I don't take it easy, the only thing that is slightly in my favour is I engine brake a lot, so changing speed limits I will usually let it run down to the lower limit rather than braking. Last fill up was Sunday since then I've had 152 from about 13.5ltr then fuel light came on which I got to 185mile then decided to stop pushing it and fill up before I literally was pushing it to the petrol station.
Mixture of A roads, few B roads and several single track country lanes, and junction on the M42 around 70mph.. I don't rev particularly high, 8k max cos restrictor is there and I don't see the point really. My bike is ECU restricted... |
