Default Fueling problems post-derestriction

I had my 01 SVS derestricted today because my two years are finally up and now it's running like an utter dog.

The Suzuki restriction kit was simply swapped out for the original parts and now it won't idle properly: the idle speed keeps bouncing between 1K and 2K like the engine's about to stall and it doesn't improve as the engine warms up. When riding in a straight line on a constant throttle, the bike keeps lurching as the rear tyre suddenly digs in like the power's been cut for a fraction of a second before releasing and shooting forward. The lurching's really bad when closing the throttle to engine brake and it's also really bad at low speeds and nearly had me off in a car park. The acceleration's also completely **** compared the way it was before.

I've left the bike with the workshop to get them to look at it but I get the feeling he doesn't give a **** and is trying to blame the parts as being dodgy. He says all he did was lift the tank and airbox, swap the parts and put everything back in but I don't think he even bothered to turn the engine on to make sure everything worked; the idle speed weirdness is noticeable just by watching the rev counter.

Anyone got any ideas what could have happened?

Its a curvy so carb'ed.

I dont think you can just remove the washers and expect it to run fine, dont you need to sort the fueling etc?

I had the problem after putting them in that fueling was really carp and would die on me at certain points, then when I took them out, she ran a little better. Maybe the carbs were set up to run nicely with washers in but now the flow has been increased, it's not set up that way specifically.

Wait for someone more techie to come along.

Note the OP has Suzuki modified carb sliders, not FI international washers.

Silly question but has he replaced the sliders in both carbs?

May also be a cracked / disconnected vacuum hose.

Or possibly a leaking diaphragm on one of the sliders if it was not inserted correctly.

If the bike was running fine during the restriction and the full power parts are in good condition and fitted correctly you shouldn't have to adjust anything especially at idle.

Remember the restriction sliders only come into play when the throttle is opened.

He's replaced the sliders in both carbs so that's not the problem. I was thinking that the fueling might have been adjusted by the Suzuki dealer who put the restricted sliders in and now the full power ones are in, it's running much richer than it was set up for. If RachetJob's right (and I imagine he is) then the guy probably just botched the job.

I'm going to phone tomorrow morning and see what's happened. If it's still not fixed, I'll dispute the charges with my credit card company and just take the bike to the dealer who originally restricted it.

choke cable on the carb been attached correctly? I've been told that a sticking choke cable can cause grief. I've got a carb'd model too and to take the carb sliders out i've been told is a pain.

Best thing to do is take it back and get them to dyno the bike. had mine done at christmas for the same faults as you. a hole was found in the pipe that supplies the scotoiler. bike now runs fine

Yon f*cktard in garage has not seated airbox correctly or not tightened carb clamp up.

Don't go dynoing it unless you haven't already set a load of money on fire already today, engine is lean on bottom somewhere from airleak or (unlikely) clogged pilot circuit.

Yup. That is what I would have suspected. Air leak somewhere. Although I would not have worded it as eloquently as YC did.

It's all fixed now so I'm guessing he checked everything and found something wasn't connected properly. I am impressed that he stayed on past closing to make sure it was done in time for me to use it to get to London today.

I was expecting it to be a completely different bike based on what people here have said but it feels pretty much the same. It's only after I get past 80mph that it feels different, mainly because it's not gasping like an asthmatic any more.
