Default Being I'll after riding the bike for 100+ miles...

Hello,
Dunno if I should post this here or somewhere else (sorry mods), but I have a problem with my kit. Don't know what's causing it exactly
At one point, I've changed everything (apart from gloves and boots), that's:

- the bike,
- Textiles: cheapo Frank Thomas for HG Journey,
- Lid: Schuberth concept for the R1,

Earlier, I could do trips around 600 miles (around 10h - Germany) and I was ok. Now however I'm getting a cold and often get I'll after a 100 mile ride :/

I think the problem could be the lid as I get a draft across my face. The old lid had a nice collar (see pic) and this didn't occur. I've bought a Motrax helmet skirt, but don't like it for two reasons, firstly it slides down and secondly it didn't solve the problem (I got I'll after 300 miles).

Can't really afford to experiment with a new lid (Schunerth c3), don't really fancy another concept (heavy, big).

Any ideas? Anyone hand something simmilar? Am I right thinkiking this could cause the problem?

Cheers
Dyzio

Did you notice my neck tube at the GM.? it was a bit like this one, but less ugly. They have a 'windstopper' membrane and 'gore' in them. They. really so stop the wind.

Mine also has a stretch chin area, unlike this one which is one piece. Once I've got my lid on and buckled up I pull it off my nose as it gets a bit hot in it

You've got to tape the helmet skirt to your lid to keep it on. But if it's not working then there's not much point. Have you tried a really thick fluffy neck tube? Or even just a scarf

Cheers DB.
Got two of them, an older Buffalo one and a new "wind proof" from HG, as well as a tiny neck tube from Motrax.

Unfortunately they didn't help noticeably (the lid skirt gave the best effect).

Yep, did that, doesn't slide down now, it helped but hasn't solved the problem.

I'll try to go out in the old Concept lid for a longer run, see what happens.

Would have thought shortage, rather than surplus of fresh air would cause problems?

you cant get a cold by being cold....

when was the last time you washed the liners in your helmet?

if the cold bug has gotten into the fabric, it could be that every time you put the lid on you are breathing in the bug again...

or you have hay fever...

try buying a sanitiser spray for helmets. this should kill any bugs that are in the fabric.

The bug theory is plausible. Something like napisan and a wash under the shower might do the trick.
If the helmet is a bit draughty a summer weight balaclava might do the trick and will help to keep your helmet clean. Treat it like socks and jocks as some really nasty bugs live in our noses... Wear it and wash it.

Cheers

I was boiling after the 2nd stop at the GM, so I took 1 layer off, wasn't cold at any time :/

Same thing at the Ecosse Tomintul Ice cream run.

I haven't to be honest, I have some spray cleaner, will give it a shot.

One other thing I've noticed, the jacked I bought was a bit on the big side, especially after I've taken the thermels out, but I didn't know it looked like a bl*ody parachute :/
