Default MOT advisory notice.

Took my '03 plate' 650s for it's MOT yesterday & it passed without major problem.

I did get 4 advisory notices one of which I have a query about.
Also what nut do I tighten to sort the problem?

The notice was "Centre (swinging arm) Rear suspension bush has slight free play".

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to start???

Thanks in advance.

Stu

Well the language used isn't plain, but from what's said I imagine it's referring to the bushes in the swingarm upon which pivot the links, (often called 'dog bones'), that connect it to the suspension linkage.

Specifically the bearings numbered 4, in this diagram,
and the bush numbered 15, in this diagram.

The bearings aren't adjustable - unless the parts are actually loose tightening the fittings won't do any good.

my bandit had 2 advises for excess play in the rear suspension, it was only when it started making a lot of noise that I started to look at it, but as SS says, it wasn't adjustable, needed 2 of the bushes replaced to cure it

So would that mean replace with new or could it be shimmed if tightening the nut wont do any good?

I think this came up second to last MOT i had at Victor Devine, they mentioned it. Suggested that it's probably there from the factory but will get worse with age/use.

No, the suspension has only needle bearings in it*, there's nothing to shim, if there is play in the suspension something needs to be replaced.

*Two that the swingarm pivots on, two in the underside of the swingarm at the top end of the links and four in the linkage.

You have a bearing that sits either side of the main swingarm spindle bolt that runs through the frame. You need to nip back and ask which one he meant.
