So I head off for rehearsal today and flick the indicator switch.
Nothing. Odd. After a bit of riding, they work again. Then don't (seems like something trips and they go off- only on using right indys). The dash flickers too. It did look like the dash dimmed a bit on revving so I'm thinking possibly battery/reg-rec. But not again! I've only had the reg/rec a year (new style Electrex model)- surely even a pattern unit should last a tad longer. Battery is new since December. It also seems intermittant- was fine on the last stage of the ride home... Anyway- gonna check the voltages tomorrow after work (was too late/dark and tired theD tonight for me to do this). Anyone had experience of this? Last edited by thedonal; 27-07-09 at 09:24 PM. |

Good morning.
As I assume you're able to start the engine, it would appear that the battery & consequently the regulator are functioning correctly. It's more likely that you have an earthing issue, or bad contact somewhere. As it's the indicators that are faulty, start with checking the indicator circuit/switch etc & go from there. Cheers. |

Cheers- will do. The bike has been starting, so I was less inclined to go with battery/charging.
I thought that maybe there was a short somewhere- loads of spray on the roads after rain yesterday morning. It only seemed to manifest itself yesterday evening. Seems fine this morning.... |

Starting in the morning (or straight after work) hasn't been as lively as usual.
A reappearance of the problem today as I left the office- only on the first junction though, right outside work. Nothing after. I've sprayed switch cleaner in the indicator switch (clutching at straws- don't think the issue lies there). Also checked voltage- battery was showing 12.5v ish after, 1 hour after I got home from work. Rose to about 13.6 as the revs rose and stayed there- so charging circuit /rec+rec seem fine. There appears to be a 20v drop when the indicators are running- I don't know if that's normal or not. I'm wondering if that damned alarm isn't draining the battery overnight- could be why things are more tricky after staqnding for 8 hours plus. Or the battery could be out of condition. Unlikely- it was new in Dec and the reg/rec have been working OK since... So- I dunno. Will have to see how it goes I suppose- going to look into ripping out the alarm next week... |

Good morning.
It would be worth checking the multi-plugs from the switches into the loom, as they're prone to corroding, & due to the small pins Suzuki use. As we've already said let's rip the alarm out & play footie with it ![]() Cheers. |

Cool- will do. Gonna get it all apart next week and see wassup.
Again- no problems this morning... Actually, I remember spraying some ACF50 into the connectors last time I looked at them when I had last year's wiring problems.. |
