Hey all, I'm new to these forums but wished my first post was made under better circumstances
![]() I recently purchased a 2005 SV650s which was delivered on Thursday from a reputable dealership near where I live. I have not been able to use it yet due to being busy. So, a nice sunny Sunday afternoon comes round, I want to fire her up. But I wanted to make sure I completed all the checks in the handbook. So i checked my levels, lever distances etc. So I fired her up and proceeded to test the side stand safety feature. Sure enough as she was in 1st gear with the clutch in, i moved the stand into position and the bike cut out. That was the last time she ran. Now the bike will do its startup checks but it sounds almost more tired that usual. I get a no turnover at all when I try to start her up. Thankfully she's still under warranty with the dealership, but they're not open until Tuesday ![]() If anyone has experienced this before and has a clue as to whether I'm missing something daft, PLEASE let me know. ~Martin |

Flat battery is always first suspect... But it'll usually at least try and turn over. Does make me wonder about the "safety" cutouts... Try it in neutral with the clutch in and sidestand up?

Check your kill switch too, we've all done that

Yea I even checked the small switch that tells the bike if the side stand is up or down. Sat on it, put the stand up, clutch fully in and in neutral. And the kill switch. Made that mistake the day I got it lol.
If the battery is removed from the bike, is it likely to remove any data that has been recorded by the error. So if it doesn't work, when I take it back on Tuesday, if the data is blank, thats going to make diagnosis more difficult. This is my first bike so feel free to treat me like an idiot on these things hehe. Would rather it be something silly than something expensive and time consuming lol ~Martin |

Sounds like you've covered the obvious stuff. Thinking of other things... Could be the switchgear itself, if the starter switch itself isn't connected right. The clutch cutout is nice and easy to check, you can bypass it without significant effort so I'd suggest that- remove the plug from the clutch and bridge it out. Same applies for the sidestand switch.

Dunno about the diagnostic part but i cant see it being anything major. Do you have any lights come on when you turn the key?
And sounds at all when you hit the start button?

When I use the start button I get a loud electrical buzzing. Not a nice sound to hear. But I have my headlights come on and my indicators all work etc. Will try bridging the clutch and sidestand switches and get back to you.
Thanks for your help so far guys ~Martin |

I'd be pretty confident in saying that the culprit is the fact that you have a flat battery.

Loud buzzing you say? Not like a rapid click clik click? Can you isolate where this sound is coming from?
Most likely to be the battery so try leaving the key in the on position, with the kill swith in the kill positon for about half a hour if you can. If its the battery the lights should be noticably dimmer.
