I've not posted much, but spend quite a bit of time browsing this site (helps me through the day at work!)
Anyway, I have a little dilemma, I have around 3k to spend on a 2nd bike, as well as the SV. I've always fancied a Daytona 600, still think it's one of the best looking bikes, and it's also something a bit different. It's either that or go safe and buy a CBR600 fs, which I should be able to buy within budget, but this would probably be 2/3 years older than a d600 as obviously Honda's hold their value better. Has anyone had any experience of them? I'm a bit worried about running costs, reliability, etc, etc. Although it'll be a second bike, I'd still like to be able to commute on it during the summer months. Do i buy with my heart or head? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers |

Reviews always seem to say the D600 is a really sensible choice for a real world bike, but doesn't quite cut it on the track compared to jap 600s.

The CBR6 is a fantastic bike, there is a reason they sold so many.
But if there is something wrong with it at all is that for many people it fails to stir the soul. It's the same kind of reason I still have a '89 VFR750FJ rather than a modern bike, the VFR is an handful, a wayward, narrow tyred, wheelie prone, wobbly beast with less power and far worse handling than a modern CBR6 yet I'd have it over the CBR6 (or even a modern VFR) any day *because* of it's faults[1]. Go with your heart, you'll regret it far less than otherwise. Druid [1] Er and it keeps me slow, ~90rw bhp and an indicated 160 flat out is plenty thanks. ![]()

You will have more reliability issues with the D600 than you ever will with a CBR600
You could pick up a ok condition 2003/2004 cbr600rr for 3k ish http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1187328.htm

I have a CBR600 FW as a trackbike, but I'd choose my ex's old Daytona 600 as a road bike if I were in the market for a bike in that category.
