Default Amatuer Testing Himself on Track

Just wondering the best way to find out how decent you actually are on a racetrack.

I was recently told about http://www.rsr-racing.ltd.uk/whatNext.html

But anyway, was thinking about other ways that you could test yourself on track without buying a brand new bike for track.

In minitwins, for example, are there many bikes that are dog awful and pretty much standard or are they all tricked up? Would i be able to use my road bike if i spent a bit of time on it?

What sort of costs would you be looking at to do one race weekend and is it even possible to do just one?

As in just entrance fee really as i know about all the consumables, license, transportation and tools etc...

I wonder whether you might be able to join in on a racing test meet. I went to one at Mallory park at the beginning of the year and there were different types of bikes in different sessions. So you may be able to have some track time alongside some other Minitwins bikes???

Either that or find out what times the minitwins were putting in at Cadwell and compare yourself against that on the 22nd?

There's the whole other element of practice, qualifying and the actual races as well though. Something i'd definately want to experience as well if possible.

I know i'd need a race license and to become a member of which ever race series, yeah. Be it Thundersprint (?) or Bemsee.

Just wondering if once a member, or what not, can a rider participate in just an individual weekend.

Happy to answer any questions you might have.

Simplest way though would be to go and do a trackday. Sounds obvious but there it is. I know they dont like you timing laps etc but lets face it they cant stop every man and his dog with a stopwatch at the side of the circuit.

Minitwins is a series aimed at near production bike spec. There are loads of ways to pump money into a bike though, even if its only new tyres. The CB500 has a good proddy class too that might be worth a look.

Hiya Flymo. I'll concoct a PM full of, probably, stupid questions for you to mull over.
