My laptop constantly runs the fan, and it always seems to be quite hot. Its been like this for years to be honest, but I noticed recently that my folks who have the same laptop as me, dont have half that trouble and the fan only comes on intermittently.
Can anyone advise on why my machine runs so hot and why the fan is constantly on? Its like a turbine in my back room! |

First off you need to ascertain if the CPU is being loaded all the time or is in fact idling. If it is loaded when nothing is supposed to be running them you need to find out what is running and why. Windows task manager is your friend here.
If the CPU is idling correctly when nothing is supposed to be running then you have a failure of the cooling system. You need to clean out the heatsink fins by blowing compressed air through them. Over time $h1te will build up on the fins and stop them from dissapating heat efficiently. If this does not improve matters then I'm afraid the case needs cracking open as more than likely the thermal compound between the heatsink and CPU has failed and needs replacing. Hope this helps |

Try and clean out the fan as well, blow into the heat exhaust or get a hover, as when iw as working for a computer company that worked as well

Dont blow into the fins, as all you will do is blow back the crud into the machine and fan. Find where the air comes in, usualy its under the computer and blow though there.
Its also possable you have a batch of computer where they did not have enough thermal paste between the cooler and cpu.

When you blow the fan clean please remember to put a brush in the fins to stop it spinning whilst you are blowing it.

Yeah, well its certainly idling ok. I've ran speedfan and I'm getting some sensors indicating high temperature issues. Core is running around 49c, temp1 says its running at 59c but i'm not sure what that is (ACPI chip?) Both Temp2 and 3 are running at lower speeds (although running earlier today, they were quite a bit higher).
I think the thermal paste might be an issue, however I've not cracked open the case of a laptop before, nor have I ever bothered to reapply thermal paste to a processor |
