Default lowering kit

I have just purchased a 1999 sv650s and I would like to lower the seat height but don't want to take the bike to bits. I have read that its easy to fit different dogbones however if I drop the back of the bike 20-30mm then the seat height will drop 8-10mm but I might have to cut and weld my side stand. if i drop the bike by 40-50mm at the back I will need to drop the front forks by 10mm. so if I dont want to cut up the seat what shall I try first? any advice would be appreciated.

My other halfs SV is lowered, dogbones from banditmania and forks dropped by 10mm I think. Still handles ok and still has plenty of ground clearance. She went from being on tippy toes to having both feet flat on the deck. No need to do anything with the sidestand. Not carving up the seat meant that we could fit a sooper comfy gell seat instead of the stock plank of wood.
hope this helps

is it straight forward to drop the forks and do I need to strip off the fairing. My other half has the same problem she is on her tiptoes. I see the the dogbones at banditmania drop the bike by 30mm and are made from aluminium but the ones at cj accessories have a chioce of 25mm or 50mm and are made from steel.

Takes about 10 minutes and you don't need to strip anything, you'll need to get the weight off the suspension though. Those stands that fit into the swingarm pivots are the dogs danglies!

Check with banditmania on the material, the ones we bought several years ago were made of steel then zinc plated. The original ones are made of steel also. I personally would not trust any made of aluminium as they are very likely to snap.

As bedhead points out if you buy a sooper dooper abba stand the fitting these is a doddle as is dropping the forks.

Its a quick job so a local bike shop should only charge you an hours labour for doing the forks and the drop links.

cheers
