Default Vance and Hines Exhaust

I have taken a fancy to one of these;

http://www.vanceandhines.com/product...one/csone.html

They aren't listed in the UK, so I e-mailed the importer to today tell me it will cost £700

It's listed at $500 which is about £350 including VAT, so what the hell is going on! It can't be that expensive to ship across, so is the importer trying to make a fast buck?

Needless to say, I've replied that I'm not interested in buying from him!

Does anyone here have any excperience of importing stuff direct, or any members stateside able to help out?

Pete

I've been stung for import tax before. Think you have to ask the seller to ship it as a 'gift'. If you have to pay the fees then you quickly start to lose any money you may have saved (especially at the current exchange rate). Although if you can only get it from the US that's a different matter. Speak to the seller.

If the seller's being unhelpful you could try and persuade a yank member to buy it and ship it as a gift?

i could be wrong here but i fink shipping as a gift only works if the item is below a certain value, the higher the value the higher the import duty

Best bet is to get someone in the States to ship it as a gift. Better still (although only marginally TBH) is to ship it from Canada.

I've had friends ship me ice hockey equipment as "gifts" and never been stung.

Or ship it in a box with half a dozen lumps of scaffold tube all marhed as 'Commercial Samples' (worked with airsoft stuff before the feckers brought in the VCR)

There's a couple on ebay, although not specifically for an SV, I'm sure they could be made to fit with a link pipe.

Obviously not the Harley ones.

The sister in law works at Bowker in Preston who do D/Buell and V&H stuff.

They seem like a good bunch so maybe call in when you're next out and see if they can order one in their next shipment?

Anyone found a place that actually sells this exhaust? Most dealers doesn't even list it, and the few that does says out of stock.

PM BluePete, don't know if he got it sorted or not. If he did, probably through Bowkers as above.

Any Harley dealership will get it for you, but it will cost £460.

The other option could be getting a friend in the states to buy it and post is as a gift.
