Default Are stubby cans illegal?

Found this 'How to' on line and now I want one. It looks pretty damn good! Will it make my Fuel can illegal though? Would it pass MOT with the baffle in?

Might pass an MoT since the testers instructions are fairly ambiguous, something along the lines of "comparable to similar bikes".

Legal, naah! I'd expect it to fall foul of the the Construction and Use regulations. It's no longer the design which passed the CE mark, so it's not approved for road use.

But if you don't give Mr Plod a good reason to pull you over it'll probably be ignored unless you live in North Wales. Of course if you ride through the traffic on one wheel and pull a stoppie when you spot the Plodmobile, it's a few more points towards getting you off the road before you hurt someone.

Just my thoughts,

Keith.

I've had my cans stubbied (for practical reasons as the carbon-fibre had cracked at one end) and it passed it's MOT with the baffles in.

Short vid of our SV with the stubby on. It passed MOT's with it, and we were never pulled for it, not even in North Wales and we were there quite often

Just one note of caution though, be sensible riding through built-up areas, especially if you commute and leave home fairly early. You don't want to upset your neighbours!

You're a bad lad!

Our neighbours are really good, so if we're leaving early in the morning Pete pushes the bike to the top of the road before starting it up. Good neighbours are worth keeping on side!

Just my thoughts,
I have a Scorpion Street Extreme and have never been pulled for it in North Wales even with the Baffle out . Don`t assume that just because it is North wales your gonna get nicked for the tiniest thing , you usually get nicked for being a visitor to the area and riding like a Charley Hunt . Stubby away and you will be fine , and like Keith has mentioned , don`t behave like a berk and you`ll be just dandy .

On a side note when I took my bike for it`s first MOT with the Scorpion on , the tester jumped on my bike , started her up and his head disappeared into his shoulders . I thought "Uh-Oh" . He came back about 15 minutes later and I finished pacing up and down and asked him if all was ok ...... he said "Flew through mate" . I replied "What about the can ?" and his reply ? .................................................. ..... "That`s how they should sound" and gave me a huge grin .
