any tips on digital SLR?

my Sony alpha 230 DSLR


ok so I'm normally used to switch on point and shoot so any tips?


at the mo I'm trying to memorize the manual so i can use the best effects and get a few tips on how best to take different situations,


any tips from you camera users? ive seem some pretty fantastic photos on this site in the photos section so I'm hoping someone can help.

Get yourself a subscription to Digital Photographer or similar - I read it every month and stil pick up new tips/ideas every time.

I read up on using 'shutter prioirity' to manually set exposure times on Saturday night before I went to a firework party, and then managed to take these:-







No idea if they are any good technically, but I quite like them

those photos look great to me, thats the kind of thing id like to achieve one day, ive been reading up on 'shutter priority' also.

Just go and take photos and play with the settings. Experiement, mess things up and generally play about with it.

Thats how I learnt.

I'm doing that now lol the alpha 230 is a beginners DSLR camera and it basically tells you what each of the settings do on the screen.
